What Makes a Successful Photoshoot

Tips & tricks on how to get the most out of any photoshoot with us!

If you know us, you know that we strive for a cinematic and authentic feel to our portraits. It isn’t about pictures, but moments! And you may think that you have to do so much to create memorable portraits, but it’s actually quite simple.

Remember to live in the moment.

When we are at the photoshoot together, it is really easy to get caught up in the little details. The details are important but don’t get too caught up in it if your hair doesn’t want to sit exactly right. Remember that what is most important is to live in the moment. Here at Chloe Conlin Photography, we want to create moments and capture gorgeous moments. If there are little details that are needing to be worked out, I will help you! All that matters is living in the moment and soaking up the sun!

Trust the vision.

There are moments where I will probably ask you to do something you wouldn’t usually do. And I do this for many reasons but if I ever get you in a moment like this, remember to trust the vision! It can be hard to really imagine what the picture will look like and I know that even I can get caught up in my insecurities. But I promise the photos that feel the weirdest tend to have the most magic. The only thing that can ruin these moments and make the portraits look awkward is if you feel awkward.

If I ever do ask you to do something you don’t want to do, you can always tell me you aren’t comfortable and I am more then happy to work around it! (It’s kinda my job 😌)

Do the wild things.

Our photography as I’ve said before are all about moments. And if you are quite adventurous and have a story that calls for wild moments. Then I may ask you to the the wild things. But remember it’s all about the moments!

Some of my favorite portrait session have been ones where we step out of our comfort zones a-little. And know that whatever it is, I am in it with you! For example, I LOVE when i get to do portraits with water features and sometimes, a photoshoot just CALLS for getting in the water! But fear not, I will also be in the water holding my camera for dear life (but it’s so worth it). And if there is ever something as wild as getting in the water or rolling around at the beach, we will discuss it beforehand.

But unique story-telling portraits call for wild and fun moments!

Check out the style guide.

Something that you will receive when you book a photoshoot with me is a style guide that will help you look in the closet and choose an outfit that compliments your unique story. Each style guide catered to the type of photoshoot you book!

The style guide will help you understand your unique story and how you can represent it through your clothing. Because I can edit the portraits and guide you on the day of, but the outfits are something that you bring to the photoshoot to really complete the vision.

Mentally prepare.

Whether you just booked the photoshoot or are counting down the days. It’s great to really mentally prepare for the portrait session!

I have found that the best way to mentally prepare for the photoshoot is to watch movies or listen to music that compliments your vision and style. Let’s say you are going into a photoshoot and are planning to take portraits that feel vintage/old money. I would recommend watching something like The Great Gatsby to really get you in the mood.

Because when you bring the vibes, we can capture magic!

A Success Story!

You may have seen them before but I would say one of my most successful clients is Bella and Tony. They have had me capture their portraits a couple times and every time it’s been magical. The most recent time especially!

Every time we do portraits together, they really do understand the assignment. When they had reached out, they immediately knew that they wanted to go for that old money look. Something both classy and vintage. And with that, we were really able to work together to create magic. I recommended a location and from there, they brought the energy! And on top of it, the red roses! Which I thought were a perfect touch to the old money look. I had them pose, play and move around with these portraits and they were more then happy to do it all!

And with that, we made some MAGIC.

We’ve had the absolute joy of working with Chloe for three anniversaries now, and every single session has been nothing short of amazing. She’s captured our anniversary photos year after year, and each time, she manages to freeze our love and connection in the most beautiful, genuine way.

Not only is she incredibly talented behind the camera, but she’s also one of the kindest and most thoughtful people we’ve met. She makes us feel so comfortable and she has a true gift for capturing the little in-between moments that mean the most. Her attention to detail, artistic eye, and warm energy make every shoot feel effortless and fun.

We’re so grateful to have found someone we trust completely to document such special memories. Our photos from her are treasures we’ll keep forever. If you’re looking for someone who truly cares about their work and their clients, we can’t recommend Chloe enough!
