- A story about my mom.
A story about my mom.
The real motivation behind what I do.
Let’s just get right into it, shall we?
Mom, I know your reading this. Thank you for always being my biggest role model.
I am about 15 years old. I’m a tall girl, so I must do sports. Well then, you would be wrong. “Do you play basketball?” No…
Growing up, without any rhyme or reason, I was always drawn to the arts. I tell myself it’s because of the expectation of what people think when they see me. Think of it as my little act of rebellion, creating art and being expressive instead of playing in sports.
One day, my mom came home from a rough day at work and of course I asked her about it. She was defeated.
For context, my mom is one of the hardest working woman you will ever meet. Quite literally, if you know, you know. She doesn’t make excuses, she shows up every day, she’s… well… bad*ss! She wasn’t always expressive but she works hard for what she has. In my eyes, they were big shoes to fill.
Despite her not always being able to understand me and my decision to make art as a career and study, she told me to not take the same path as her. She told me to do something that makes you happy so you don’t work a day in your life.
That stuck with me.
While the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree… We both have excessive work ethics while stressing over things like self care. We both enjoy margaritas with chips and queso at Gringos.
But for her, I work hard to create something out of my creative work. To try something new while looking up to her as a hard working role model.
Because of the path she has paved, I know that I have what it takes to create a life I want.
And in the present, something that I love about us is the way we balance each other out. With our different paths we’ve taken we both complete each other while having a deep understanding for one another.
Something only we have.
Thanks to my mom, I am where I am today <3
Thank you mom. Happy mother’s day!
