5 Tips For A Distinctive Portrait Session

You: "How can I make my photos feel more unique and personable?"

Something that we pride ourselves in is the ability to make a portrait session feel unique to you. While I can do everything I can to capture the energy and lead with poses and prompts, there are actually a few things that you can do to bring the energy and create unforgettable portraits.

Fun fact: Taking a photograph is a reflection of the relationship between the photographer and the person being photographed. This is why it is so important to choose a photographer that you connect well with!

But let’s get into those tips so that we can create unique and personable portraits at your next session!

  1. Choose clothes that you are comfortable in and have worn before. This way you are more comforable at your portrait session and are free to dance and move around as freely as possible to show off personality.

  2. Have a mini dance party or do something you find fun right before your portrait session. Something that I can not easily control as a photographer is the energy in the room. I will bring the energy myself but there is only so much I can do. The best way to get those energetic and good feeling portraits for your wall is to come into the session with those feelings. It makes more of a difference then you could ever imagine to bring the energy you want to capture into the portrait session!

  3. Bring an activity that you and whoever you are photographing with enjoys. This makes the photos not just personable but more fun as well. We can capture your favorite memories while having an icebreaker for being in front of the camera! Its a win, win.

  4. Get ready to move around. Movement is a whole element of its own when it comes to the arts and as a photographer I find that movement helps release tension and awkwardness. So get ready to walk, jump and move around at our session together because movement doesn’t just help but its’s a gorgeous element visually that helps tell a story.

  5. Trust the photographer! This one is probably self explanatory but you have to trust that the photographer will capture your special moments in a way that you wish. That is why you hired them after all! Once your there at your session, it’s time to be in the moment and no where else. Look at your loved ones. Feel the wind in your hair and be present in the moment. Trust the art of photography and intentionally live your moment.

Hopefully these are things that will help you in creating photos that are not only unique but make you feel something when you look back at them. Creating intentional moments with those we love most is so important and I pride myself in making the most of those moments by capturing them to be cherished for generations to come.
